Houston Botanical Gardens Opens Its Doors

Houston’s newest 132-acre natural attraction opened its doors this September! After two years of construction, the Houston Botanic Garden, which is located east of I-45 South on Park Place Blvd, is ready to be shared with the world.

The gardens act as a botanical museum offering finely curated collections of plant life to inspire home gardeners, educate environmentalists and entertain visitors.

CED Stone North America had the honor of being a small part of the project by supplying approximately 100 tonnes of the beautiful natural stone used throughout the gardens.

Ruan Ellis, CEO of CED Stone North America inc. said that they were approached during the initial design stages by West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture to advise and suggest suitable materials for the pathways at the gardens.

“Being part of the early design stages enabled us to thoroughly investigate suitable materials, colors and technical properties for the scheme, and advise accordingly,” Ellis explained.

Ellis added the project was a massive success and added that “the pathways connect all different sections of the gardens in an aesthetic, as well as functional way, whilst ensuring the true beauty of the botanical gardens remains the main feature.”

He commended the design team, contractors and the client for their passion to transform the space in a way that celebrates the beauty of the local area.

“The gardens will bring many years of joy, valuable education and of course beautiful Instagram posts to Houstonians and it’s visitors alike,” Ruan added.

City of Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner recently visited the site and described the Houston Botanic Garden as a long-term investment in Houston tourism, he also described the project as “132 acres of serenity and nature.”
